First Primaris Space Marines

Well, here is the first Space Marine squad finished out of the new Warhammer 8th edition Dark Imperium boxed set. I've decided to paint my marines up as Dark Angels, 3rd Company.

The process for painting these guys was the same I used for the Word Bearers from the Calth boxed set last year (but green marines this time, instead of red). I started with assembly, and then pinned everything for easy handling.

Flat black primer coat.

The a gloss black coat to take the next metallic layer better.

Next, two shades of silver. Gunmetal for the "upwards" spray, and Duraluminium for the "downwards" spray. This is pre-shading for the Minitaire Ghost Tint spray coming next.

A coat of Green Ghost Tint.

That was followed up with the start of detail painting. Gold, sliver, leather, red, etc.

Bases were painted, decals were added, arms were glued in, final weathering scratches applied, figures based, and, there you go.

Squad number one is off the table. Much more to come.

This past week I also finished off one of the Hammerhal hero figures. A Chaos Lord, or Mage or something. Not sure what it's called.

Nice figure, though. I like it. Looking to play some Hammerhal in July.

Up next is more Dark Imperium Space Marines.

'Til next time.

8th Edition 40K: The Madness Has Begun

The new edition of 40K was released to the public today. Picked up my gear at Thunderground. Thanks Roy!

So, having played miniatures-based tabletop games for 40 years, I've never played a game of 40K...but this is the edition where I will start. Felt like I had to get loaded for bear, so pretty much picked up one of everything on release day. Also, a little paint to keep the cupboards stocked.

Inside the boxed set, there's a pretty spectacular array of product. A separate box of minis, decals, assembly guide, core rule fold-out, Space Marine and Death Guard guides, and the full hardback rulebook. A pack of dice and ruler round out the set.

Well, I'm off to the back yard to start clipping out miniatures. No time like the present to start into this monster.

'Til next time.

Blightkings for Hammerhal

Hammerhal adversaries are now done, with these five Blightkings walking off the painting table. Gotta say that the models were pretty spectacular, with lots of detail and character.

I probably spent too much time on them, but they were very fun to paint. The skin was airbrushed on in three tones, then given several washes for shade and bruising. And, of course, there were lots of passes for seeping wounds, pustules, and blown on sprays of inks and blood for good measure. Anyway, lots of fun. And now I'm looking forward to the Nurgle models in the upcoming 40K box.

Speaking of fun...got together with Alan and Elliot for a 3-way game of Armageddon last Tuesday night. It was cultists vs orks vs sisters. A good game, and lots of terrain to play with.

Now, bring on 40K!

'Til next time.

More Hammerhal

The new Warhammer 40K boxed set drops next weekend. That will be a big painting project that will blow everything else off of my hobby table. So, with that in mind, I'm racing to get my Hammerhal stuff done. This weekend, I put the Kairic Acolytes to bed. Base inserts are from Cool Mini Or Not.

Earlier in the week, I was spraying on the skin tones to all the remaining Hammerhal figures I was going to do. So, this is what the Acolytes looked like with their skin done (and an Acolyte from Silver Tower to act as a guide model).

I was also working on Blighking skin.

And some of the player-characters from the Hammerhal set. Just skin at this point.

Anyway, 10 figures down this weekend, and 8 more to go to finish off everything I'm going to do for the Shadow Over Hammerhal boxed set.

Bring on 40K 8th edition!

'Til next time.
