Some New 40K Terrain

Today I finished off some more terrain for Kill Team. First up, this building from the Sector Frontiers set.

Very serviceable piece, and a fun model to paint up.

I also did a set of fortifications from the Aegis Defence Line boxed set.

As you can imagine, they painted up very quickly...and they provide plenty of purpose-built Kill Team cover.

Work continues (slowly) on the Blackstone set. Here are the four Spindle Drones from that box.

Yesterday I picked up the Shadowspear set. GW...STOP RELEASING SO MANY COOL NEW MODELS! Anyway, I started building up the new Primaris Marines in that box...such awesome figures.

Traitor Guardsmen from Blackstone Fortress

I'm currently painting up the Blackstone Fortress set from GW. Here are the 14 Traitor Guardsmen from the box.

Great set of figures. Excellent poses and lots of character. The whole set is good.

Stormsire's Cursebreakers

Just completed the Stormsire's Cursebreakers warband for Nightvault. Actually, these are the first Stormiest figures I've ever completed (started many for AoS).

Nice figures, as expected from the Underworlds series. Lots of great animation (particularly cloth animation) in these sculpts.

I've started into Blackstone Fortress as well. First figure off the painting table is UR-025.

This is essentially Iron Man in the 40K universe...or maybe Cylons!

Magore's Fiends

I started playing Shadespire again. The new Nightvault edition of Warhammer Underworlds has invigorated the game environment. I looked through the available warbands, and decided to put together a Fiends deck.

I was able to assemble and paint the Fiends miniatures very quickly (two hobby days total). Who doesn't love a project that only requires four figures!

The warband plays very straightforward, and it's super-offensive-oriented. I like the play style, so I'm going to work on learning these guys for a while.

Catching Up On Some Terrain Pieces

Hello!

I haven't posted for a while. I've been slogging away on a couple of large projects...all having to do with Kill Team terrain. First off, I wanted to paint a Kill Team board. I started with this section of the Realms of Battle board. It's 2' x 2'...and it took forever to paint.

I've also spent the last couple of months working on this Basilicanum terrain piece, on and off.

Very happy to finally call it done. It actually is a cool model, and I'm happy to add it to the collection.

I experimented with some marble painting effects for the interior floor panels. Not perfect, but it gives me a direction to work in for future projects.

I also painted this small ruins piece from the Kill Team boxed set.

The Death Watch Kill Team expansion came with some alien trees, which were pretty fun to paint up as well.

I feel like I'm finally getting to a place where I can play some Kill Team with some nice painted terrain.

For scale reference, a few Primaris Marine models.

Ten Hellblasters

I'm re-working my Dark Angels list for the LVO tourney coming next February. Should be a little more competitive. We'll see, as I start playing the list this Fall.

First off the table is a squad of 10 Hellblasters.

Now that I've got this paint scheme down, the units are taking less time to churn out.

Next up, a new sub-faction for the list: Imperial Guard. Right now, I'm looking for head swaps for the models. I don't like the standard Imperial Guard helmet-heads...so, we'll see what comes out of the bits box to replace them.

Aggressors and Inceptors

It was raining today, so I was able to finish off some figures on the hobby table.

Today, we have Dark Angel Aggressors and Inceptors. First, the Aggressors. Love these models. Lots of wires and hoses on the backs of the figures to keep them visually interesting from all angles.

And here are the Inceptors. Again, really nice figures. Kinda week in-game...or they seem that way anyway. But who cares...very cool models.

Warscryer Citadel

Games Workshop recently re-released their Skullvane Manse terrain kit as an AoS piece called Warscryer Citadel. Whatever you call it, it's a unique and cool terrain piece. I've just recently finished mine.

To move this large kit along, the airbrush was used extensively. Starting with the stonework of the citadel.

This was the paint progression for the worked stone.

To get the worked stone visually separated from the surrounding rock work, I painted the natural stone starting with purple, then worked up to lighter colours with more tonal variety.

Thus, this paint progression for the rocks.

Anyway, after those base colours were laid down, and I had sprayed the wood sections, everything else was brush-painted. And honestly, it went pretty quick.

Lot's of cool geometry in this kit.

Don't know what I'll be using it for, but I desperately wanted one right after the original kit went out of print. Happily, it came back!

Orcs for Shadespire

Shadespire continues to dominate my painting table.

This week I was able to get the Orc warband out.

A lot of my friends have painted their Orcs up with black and/or yellow armor. So I went natural, dirty and rusted metal for mine. Nothing special, but they get the job done!

Skaven for Shadespire

Shadespire continues to be my favourite boardgames release for the past year. I've been picking up the expansions as they've been released. A couple of weeks back, the Skaven warband came out, and I was very excited to get my hands on them

As I've come to expect from the Shadespire games, these sculpts are off the charts awesome. They were easy to assemble, and fun to paint as always.

I think the Orc team will be next. Stay tuned.

Shadespire: Sepulchral Guard

Finally finished my first Shadespire Warband. This is the Sepulchral Guard.

Great skeleton sculpts, finely detailed, perfect fit and a pleasure to paint up. Couldn't ask for more. Now, time to try out the game.

First Primaris Space Marines

Well, here is the first Space Marine squad finished out of the new Warhammer 8th edition Dark Imperium boxed set. I've decided to paint my marines up as Dark Angels, 3rd Company.

The process for painting these guys was the same I used for the Word Bearers from the Calth boxed set last year (but green marines this time, instead of red). I started with assembly, and then pinned everything for easy handling.

Flat black primer coat.

The a gloss black coat to take the next metallic layer better.

Next, two shades of silver. Gunmetal for the "upwards" spray, and Duraluminium for the "downwards" spray. This is pre-shading for the Minitaire Ghost Tint spray coming next.

A coat of Green Ghost Tint.

That was followed up with the start of detail painting. Gold, sliver, leather, red, etc.

Bases were painted, decals were added, arms were glued in, final weathering scratches applied, figures based, and, there you go.

Squad number one is off the table. Much more to come.

This past week I also finished off one of the Hammerhal hero figures. A Chaos Lord, or Mage or something. Not sure what it's called.

Nice figure, though. I like it. Looking to play some Hammerhal in July.

Up next is more Dark Imperium Space Marines.

Blightkings for Hammerhal

Hammerhal adversaries are now done, with these five Blightkings walking off the painting table. Gotta say that the models were pretty spectacular, with lots of detail and character.

I probably spent too much time on them, but they were very fun to paint. The skin was airbrushed on in three tones, then given several washes for shade and bruising. And, of course, there were lots of passes for seeping wounds, pustules, and blown on sprays of inks and blood for good measure. Anyway, lots of fun. And now I'm looking forward to the Nurgle models in the upcoming 40K box.

Speaking of fun...got together with Alan and Elliot for a 3-way game of Armageddon last Tuesday night. It was cultists vs orks vs sisters. A good game, and lots of terrain to play with.

Now, bring on 40K!
