Three Random Figures

There are about 20 figures on the hobby table right now, all in various states of completion. These three (happily) came off the table today. Done! It's a weird mix of figures. I've got a Warmachine Man O' War test figure (trying out some weathered winter camo). Another test figure of a winged Lizardman from Reaper, and a Skaven hero figure from Games Workshop.

I've been watching a lot of weathering tutorial videos on YouTube recently. I thought I'd try out an extreme worn winter whitewash on a unit of Demolition Corps.

I like the way this test figure turned out. Even though it's white washed, it still fits in with my grey Khador army.

On the fantasy RPG side, I've had a soft spot for winged Lizardmen since playing D&D in high school. There was a Judges Guild module by Paul Jaquays (Caverns of Thracia) that had a race of flying Lizardmen in it's background history, and I played in a friend's game where the slavers were winged Lizardmen as well...if I remember right, they were called Krolli.

I wanted to get away from a green scheme, so I went nuts and tried out purple and blue. Turned out OK.

Finally, another Skaven figure. This time a hero cast in metal.

Lots of good detail in this sculpt, and fun to paint.

Well, that's what escaped the table this week. Coming up on Thursday I'm doing an airbrushing tutorial at the LGS. Wish me luck! We'll see how that goes.

Cool Idea...Khador Gun Carriage

Elliot, my Warmachine gaming buddy, is already planning out a pretty elaborate conversion of the just-released Khador Gun Carriage. He's mating the Carriage model with a 1/35 scale FT-17 tank chassis. Brilliant!

Khador Tag Team

Quick update...

Last Tuesday night at the club, Elliot, Scott, Casper and I played a four-player WarmaHordes match. Elliot and I both had our Khador out, against Scott's Skorne and Casper's Cygnar.

Fortunately for Khador, our two armies blend well together. My stuff is grey/red, while Elliot's is olive/grey/red. We each contributed 25 points to the 50-point army list (which included two full Winterguard Death Stars).

Here, the Khador swarm moves towards the opposing start line. The two sides maneuvered carefully for several turns. In the end, both Khador casters (The Butcher and Epic Irusk) popped feats and layed down a devastating Winterguard panzerfaust and hand cannon beat down on the Skorne caster. That was too much for the opposing force, and we packed it in for the night.

New Khador Army

More Warmachine madness...

Last month I bought the Ebay auction put up by col_festus of the First Rank, Second Rank blog. This was a large lot of Khador figures, and about half of the army was painted by Eric Festa to a very high quality level. Here is the Juggernaut from that lot, painted by Eric.

I was eager to paint some of the bare metal that came with this Ebay lot...the challenge was whether I'd be able to match Eric's style. Fortunately, he had posted a Khador painting and weather tutorial, so I had a great set of guidelines to match his work.

Here is my first Khador Warjack off the table...the Khador Spriggan.

Not a perfect match to Eric's style, but close enough to pass as a single army on the tabletop. The main departure I had from his instructions was to use water-based weathering washes instead of the oil-based paint he used. In any event, I'm happy with the result. More so because Eric's painting instructions were very clear and made for a very fast painting project.

So fast, in fact, that I was able to take this full Man-o-War Shocktroopers unit from bare metal to done this week as well.

I'm very excited about this new army, since I have a good head start with Eric's painted figs, and it's proving to be a very fast army to paint.

Harbinger Versus Epic Vladimir

Played a 35pt game of Warmachine out at the club last night against Elliot's Khador forces. I took a Tier 4 Harbinger list against his Epic Vlad warcaster.

Here is the Harbinger, along with her "bodyguards".

Here is a shot of Elliot's beautiful cavalry models, backed up with a group of snipers.

Vlad arrives on the scene with his wardog and a heavy warjack.

The killing blow comes from the Harbinger, who casts two Cataclysm spells on Vlad...knocking him into next week.

I've really been enjoying the new MkII Warmachine and can't wait for the new Hordes rules to come out this summer. I've got an Everblight army lined up at the painting table waiting for attention after I finish off a slew of Menoth models.
