LVO 40K Friendly Wrap Up

Two weekends ago, I was down in Vegas for my 3rd LVO visit. Once again, loved it. So many great people to meet and play against. And the number of really great-looking armies was incredible. Here's a selection of armies from the 40K Friendly tournament I was playing in.

My tournament ran Saturday and Sunday. Two games each day. First player was Sean Kreger from California. He was playing Genestealer Cult.

First time up against a Goliath truck.

Ewww...150+ rending claw attacks against my Repulsor. Sure, it went down, but I won the game on points, 7-6.

Second game was against Matt Reid. His army was incredible. Almost completely airborne Imperial Guard.

I had a heck of a time trying to shoot down his troop carriers and jets. And while I did get some of them, I wasn't able to kill them fast enough.

My defensive redoubt at the end of the game. This was my only game loss of the weekend.

Sunday morning I played against a great guy from Oklahoma. Wyatt Harris was there with his whole family...all of whom play 40K. Smart, articulate, mature, very clean with his game mechanics and protocols...Wyatt was a great opponent. He played Death Guard.

Two high-firepower elite armies. I got the better of him and won 7-1.

My final opponent for the weekend was Alex Zoukas, a paramedic from Las Vegas. He played Necrons, and I'd have to say that this was the most exciting, and closest game of the weekend. Alex was a great opponent, and we played a very clean game.

My Repulsor and Aggressors ran through his backfield, and were able to deny Alex from scoring points on multiple turns. While he got ahead early on victory points, I was able to fight back and finally take the game 7-4. Go Dark Angels and their Secret Agenda!

There were 80 players in the tournament, and I wound up in 17th place. This was in improvement over my placement last year, and I also took best Dark Angel player.

Very fun tournament, and I will be back in Vegas for this again next year.

Primaris Master and a Pile of Late Christmas Gifts

This past week I needed to submit my army list for the LVO 2019. After putting together a new Dark Angels list, I realized I only needed to paint up one new figure. This is the promotional Primaris Captain figure, repurposed as a Primaris Master. 

He fits in nicely with the rest of the army.

So, two weeks ago, I got a message from a hobby friend in the city. He acquired nerve damage from a herniated disk that now prevents him from painting. He has been a big collector of GW products over the years...and a lot of stuff was just sitting in boxes in his basement. Well, he decided to get rid of it, and asked me to distribute everything to players in our local club.

Well, here's what the pile looked like...

Mummy Princess Bust

First project off the table in 2019 is this Mummy Princess Bust from Black Heart. It's the movie character from last year's disastrous Mummy film with Tom Cruise. 

I was looking for a quick change of pace after all the 40K and Shadespire painting I've been doing over the last year. 

Nothing too involved here...just some airbrush and brush work. Very straightforward, but a good "pallet cleanser" as we all move into the 2019 hobby season.

Deathwatch Kill Team Complete

As the year draws to a close, I finally finished my Deathwatch Kill Team 12-man campaign roster. I'd completed 5 of these guys previously...so finished the last 7 today.

And here they are. Team now includes 2 Primaris figures: one Intercessor and one Reaver.

Well, a fun project. I like how each member of the Kill Team is completely different from all the others.

Now onto something new.

Traitor Guardsmen from Blackstone Fortress

I'm currently painting up the Blackstone Fortress set from GW. Here are the 14 Traitor Guardsmen from the box.

Great set of figures. Excellent poses and lots of character. The whole set is good.

Stormsire's Cursebreakers

Just completed the Stormsire's Cursebreakers warband for Nightvault. Actually, these are the first Stormiest figures I've ever completed (started many for AoS).

Nice figures, as expected from the Underworlds series. Lots of great animation (particularly cloth animation) in these sculpts.

I've started into Blackstone Fortress as well. First figure off the painting table is UR-025.

This is essentially Iron Man in the 40K universe...or maybe Cylons!

Magore's Fiends

I started playing Shadespire again. The new Nightvault edition of Warhammer Underworlds has invigorated the game environment. I looked through the available warbands, and decided to put together a Fiends deck. 

I was able to assemble and paint the Fiends miniatures very quickly (two hobby days total). Who doesn't love a project that only requires four figures!

The warband plays very straightforward, and it's super-offensive-oriented. I like the play style, so I'm going to work on learning these guys for a while.
